The Family   |   The Farm   |   Photos   |   Region   |   History

Family is a mix that immigrated prior to the province becoming a province as well as more recent immigrants. The Kennedy family was the first to pre-empt land in Surrey in 1858 opening the area with the Kennedy Trail which is now known as Scott Road. Arthur Pemberton settled in the Thompson River region in the late 1850's about the same time as James Kennedy pre empted land in Surrey. His daughter, Fanny, married James Kennedy's son Robert and they settled and farmed in the Fraser Valley. In 1959 Robert Pemberton Kennedy, eldest son of Robert and Fanny, moved his family and later other family members followed his migration to Tappen Valley from the Fraser Valley. Interestingly, this migration started 100 years after the original settling in the Fraser Valley. This family history illustrates how young the settlement of the territory actually is, due to the fact that Confederation was in 1858 in B.C. The family is now six generations, three of which are now with the current farm. These three generations include Gary, the eldest son of Robert Pemberton Kennedy, and his three children and grandchildren. His son, Gary Douglas Kennedy and his wife Mayka are the catalyst for the family moving in the direction of grape production and winery. Our family's involvement with agriculture in this part of the world goes back before this place became a province and is something we are very proud to be a part of.
